As the United States (and the world) grows more diverse, it becomes more and more important to understand how people choose to self-identify as well as how they are identified by others. My research investigates when people's multiple social identities produces advantages and disadvantages for them. I focus on target characteristics, perceiver characteristics, and contextual factors to help explain when expression of bias may occur. I am also interested in how individuals attempt to regulate multiple social biases. For instance, we may try to correct for racial biases, but neglect gender biases.
